From the Bush to the Boardroom

Robert Rooney’s roots are firmly planted in the Blackall-Barcaldine region of Central Western Queensland. Growing up in a family business focused on mustering, droving, fencing, and yard building, he quickly developed a strong work ethic and a deep connection to rural life. After completing high school at The Cathedral College in Rockhampton, Robert earned his Bachelor of Laws at Bond University, where he specialised in energy and environment law, commercial law, and dispute resolution. Graduating at just 19, Robert initially worked in the family business before transitioning into the legal field at Swanwick Murray Roche in 2013. Subsequently, he became a partner in 2017.

Deeply Committed to Community

Robert’s passion for his community shines through in everything he does. He firmly believes that when everyone contributes, the community as a whole becomes stronger. As an active member of the Central Queensland Law Association (having previously served as President and Secretary on a number of occassions), Robert contributes to the development of the local community and its collegiate profession. Additionally, he holds board positions with the Rockhampton Museum of Art Philanthropy Group, the Central Queensland University Rockhampton Regional Engagement Committee, End Loneliness Inc, The Roman Catholic Trust Corporation for the Diocese of Rockhampton Finance Council and other organisations as well as serving as honorary solicitor for a number of small local organisations. Through these roles, Robert contributes meaningfully to the growth and development of Central Queensland.
