Background

As a partner of Swanwick Murray Roche, Terry is fiercely dedicated to the ideal of providing commercial solutions which are risk tolerant and designed to achieve the best result possible. Terry is down to earth and approaches all matters with a calm directness to build trust with his clients.

Terry began practice in 2003 and has practiced in the areas of compensation, commercial litigation and family law. His long and varied experience enables him to approach matters differently to many other practitioners; Terry’s clients often comment that his eye for detail has saved them money, time and worry.

Raised in Rockhampton, Terry is a local and understands the region well. In his spare time, Terry enjoys watching his greyhounds race, cruising his tinny on the Fitzroy River and catching a Raiders game (NRL) when he can.

Practice

Family Law

Practicing in family law, Terry can advise and guide clients through property settlements, child parenting orders and divorce applications. Terry has experience in dealing with matters relating to matrimonial and de-facto property settlements, children’s arrangements, child support and domestic violence. Terry has a particular interest in complex property settlement matters and his commercial litigation experience assists him to properly deal with many complex issues encountered in this area including with respect to trusts, complex ownership structures and financial arrangements.

Terry has successfully prosecuted and defended many commercial litigation applications and claims including, but not limited to:

  • contesting Wills;
  • contesting whether a person had testamentary capacity to sign a Will when they did;
  • bringing an application that an eligible person receive a benefit or a higher benefit from an estate of a deceased person;
  • consumer law applications;
  • partnership split ups;
  • company dissolutions;
  • winding up trusts;
  • employment law disputes;
  • breach of confidentiality;
  • lease and property disputes;
  • contract damages claims;
  • claims for loss or damage.
